Web & Mobile Navigation

To improve our web and app experience for users we overhauled our navigation to ensure our users, both free and subscribers, are able to smoothly traverse across our products and find what they’re looking for. We also made substantial SEO performance improvements to the web product which allows us to bring our top notch content to users all across the web.

Before starting any design explorations, we wanted to get a solid baseline understanding of our users. Specifically, to learn more about their experience so far with our existing navigation, and which areas are falling short of their needs and expectations. We collected this information via a user survey, followed by focused user interviews.

Read In-Depth Articles
When I’m using the app, I want to be able to read in-depth articles, so I can access The Athletic’s sports coverage.

Access Teams
When I’m using the app, I want to be able to click into a team I follow, so I can view dedicated information about that team or find something specific.

Access Leagues
When I’m using the app, I want to be able to click into a league I follow, so I can view information about that league or find something specific.

Access Writers
When I’m using the app, I want to be able to click into a writer I follow, so I can browse all the content they have written.
